Jan. 5th, 2010 01:03 amUm, if my life were restricted to the standards of "gentle fiction" I'm not sure that I wouldn't spontaneously implode into an incoherent mass of particles.
Free of sex? LOL. Not unless someone cuts my hands off.
Free of vulgar language, whether mine or someone else's? Yeah, right. Not unless someone cuts out my tongue.
Free of violence? Unlikely. You'd have to cut out my tongue, knock out my teeth, cut my hands off, then thoughtfully nail my feet to the floor. Even then, watch out for elbows and head butts.
I'm trying to figure out what's left after removing these three plot devices.

Date: 2010-01-05 08:45 pm (UTC)Rage is out, because that leads to violence.
However, I'm reminded of "The Gift of the Magi", which is an excellent short story to read -- if only to think about what it means to give up your most treasured possession for your mate, to give them something for their most treasured possession.
Damned anniversaries.

Unfortunately the food is only Vegan cuisine.
Therefore by my own special brand of twisted logic, I must conclude that anyone looking for a life free of sex, vulgar language, and violence must be on drugs.

Date: 2010-01-08 05:33 am (UTC)And, although it's possible to tell some (but not many) interesting tales without sex or violence... I don't think most fiction would go well without it.
And I'm *STILL* shocked at the way sex is seen as equal to or WORSE THAN violence in its negative moral/ethical effect on the reading/viewing public.
