Two good friends have accused me of choosing to live my life on a higher difficulty setting. I feel that the accusation (albeit a good-natured one) may have some merit.

Choose? Perhaps not. I think you *permit* your life to run at a higher difficulty setting. Is it worth it? That's for you to decide.
