GWOT Previews
Sep. 10th, 2019 07:56 pmMy current text tool ate my last story. So I'm going to give you instead a short synopsis of coming attractions in the GWOT series.
GWOT 2 - Mutual Aid
In which the City of San Jose finds out that there is a price to pay for screwing up by the numbers.
GWOT 2 - Creeping Death
Wildland fire plus snipers equals a bad day for the Site Fire Brigade.
GWOT 2 - Sidewalked
A casual Homeland crime, on set.
GWOT 3 - Kiester [DARK]
Echo 18 experiences a fact of maximum security prison life.
GWOT 3 - BIG DROP
The story of the SFWD-20 detachment attack on a Chinese prison camp in the Far West, told by an American who happens to also be a Chinese Uighur detainee. He is drafted at once.
GWOT 4 - Burn
At Alviso Prison, a Homeland command officer is on trial for his life. He is attempting to argue that deliberate arson is a lawful act of war. The Military Commission will hear his plea. Then they will argue passionately behind the scenes - not whether he should be executed for his callous and horrific murder of noncombatant civilians, but how. And whether it should involve chains and a drip torch.
GWOT 4 - DNA
At Alviso Prison, numerous Homeland officers are on trial for a particularly heinous sexual assault. Their victim is alive but unable to testify, and there is no evidence. Echo 18 tricks them into incriminating each other, skirting the line between cleverness and entrapment.
GWOT 5 - Sovereignty
Everyone wants some. The Mexicans. The Campos Indian Tribe. The Republic of California. And it all comes to a head with Echo 18 facing down an American armored column.
GWOT 6 - Iowa Arrival
In which Major 18 gains a new and personal appreciation for the command, control, logistics and intelligence support of a typical United Nations peacekeeping force.
GWOT 6 - Services
A megachurch has Sunday services open to all. All in this case includes a platoon of unarmed, uniformed California Republic soldiers. This makes hate preaching on that day awkward.
GWOT 6 - Shell Game
In the genocide zone, there are a certain number of large vehicles that can be used to carry people from place to place. Major 18 vows to take control of, neutralize, track, and/or destroy every single one of them.
GWOT 6 - Bus-Ted
A tracking device saves ninety-eight lives, and a Christian Fundamentalist genocidaire is denied the glorious opportunity to die for his beliefs.
GWOT 7 - China Tourism
The diplomatic delegations are taken on a grand tour of America's crimes in China. Colonel 18 uses the chance to plan his own.
GWOT 7 - Decision Tree
In which Colonel 18 tries to idiot proof the desperate plan that California has to do the one thing that no one would ever expect. Save America.
GWOT 7 - Choice
Colonel 18 has thrown everything he has on the pyre of his life. His honor. His integrity. His sanity. He has clung to his stubborn belief in the principle that noncombatants are not legitimate targets of war, and has himself executed Homeland officers who tried to argue that they were.
He now plots a crime that, if carried out, would cause even the horrors of the Firecracker War and the Tyranny to look like children playing with sand castles.
He correctly realizes that he could stop the plan in its tracks with one pistol and three rounds, the last one for himself.
What will he do?
GWOT 7 - Pleading
Colonel 18 is in the dock, metaphorically, during a visit to a Chinese rural estate. He is a private guest of a modern warlord.
He is appointed to argue for America's right to continue to exist.
GWOT 7 - One People, Under God
Colonel 18 succeeds the California Ambassador. An ambassador is a man of honor sent to lie abroad for his country. Not much of a country, but not much of a man either. It evens out somehow. His first task is to somehow separate California's fate from America's, in the general holocaust now being planned.
GWOT 7 - A Sword Is Best Not Used
Blessed be the peacemakers, for they shall be called the Children of God.
Cursed be the warmongers, for they shall be called the Children of the Devil.
Colonel 18 must do his very best to convince everyone that he is a War Pig. To save them all.
GWOT 7 - Affidavit
In which all secrets are revealed, every one. From the events aboard the SSBN on routine patrol in the Pacific to the decision to launch the FIrecracker War. From the beginnings of the China invasion to the victory of the Resistance.
"Every man and woman is a star." Or at least, a potential nuclear power.
There is only one way to abdicate the power of being the only man in the room with a gun. By passing out guns.
GWOT 7 Epilogue - The Statue of Responsibility
He lives to see it started. He does not live to see it finished.
