coming out
Oct. 11th, 2009 08:53 pmRe: National Coming Out Day
Disclaimer 1: this is not a humor post. This is as real as it gets. As real as Matthew in Wyoming, ummkay?
Disclaimer 2: my sexuality is none of my employer's business, and they know it. Conversely, keeping it out of the workplace is a job requirement.
I am a member of a sexual minority that is at the opposite spectrum from asexual (who get even more crap than we do -- see
sunfell's LJ for example.)
Yes, I happen to be bisexual -- but that is not it.
I am a slut. I'm not a practicing slut at present for a variety of reasons, but I see nothing wrong with friendly sex, mulitple relationships based on honesty and trust, both involving lots of sex and/or good old fashioned fucking. Oh, and I've got a very high sex drive, too.
The crap us sluts get falls into a variety of categories:
1) You're not ethical.
2) You might get a disease / it's unhealthy.
3) It's sinful.
4) You're not picky enough, or you're too picky to sleep with me.
5) How dare you have sex without guilt?!?
6) You make us (bisexual, poly, kinky, etc...) look bad while we fight for our civil rights.
7) You're not normal; your sex drive is too high! You might sleep with inappropriate partners, you're untrustworthy, etc...
Both male and female sluts are at _much_ higher risk of being the victim of violence, sexual and otherwise. We are actively discriminated against even by other fellow deviants and have no protections as such.
So this is my Coming Out Day.
I'm a slut. Deal with it.
Still doesn't mean I'm sleeping with you. :)

Date: 2009-10-12 07:22 pm (UTC)Items 1-7 are not issues for me in an honestly open relationship, but I have heard such intolerance from many people who still claim to be friendly to minority groups (item 6 in particular). I'm glad you included it in your list.
