what my Live Journal page now looks like to the public . . .

Untitled Album

I am therefore turning all child protection settings OFF while I look for another host.

Can anyone say "Last Straw?!?"

I knew you could.

In the meantime, set your "Adult content options" as follows:

"No Adult Content"
"Do Not Collapse Adult Content"
"Do Not Filter Adult Content"

. . . to restore the functionality that used to exist.

Seems like it is time to move on alot of once cool sites. Tribe.net did something that annoyed me and now I have to find somewhere to go.

As far as journals....what little I have left to say will be on Insane Journal instead.

*shrug* you could just have left your journal set to be general content and then only flagged the individual messages that actually seemed to be adult content of concern.

That's the problem. If I set my journal to public, I have to limit my topics to age 14 and overacceptable. That means I can't discuss, let's see:

  • sexuality and gender
  • details content regulation on the Internet
  • many security issues
  • morals and ethics of torture, waterboarding, etc.
  • the Tasering I had on Thursday
  • the current moral panic over Taser employment
  • a big chunk of politics

.. and many other issues, without first censoring to a 14 and older standard, whatever that is supposed to mean.

So I have a choice between lying (i.e. leaving my journal on general content) and being randomly reported when and if some fundamentalist wanders across my interests list, or having all of my posts cut as "view content inappropriate for minors" to the public Internet?

No thanks. Involuntary cut-tags of my Thanksgiving post was the last straw.

No you are not fully understanding your options.

You can flag individual messages - when you post them or edit them afterwards to change their settings.

So you leave your journal set rated 'G' and then only flag what you want to, if you want to.

Or have it set with the moderate setting, and then mark the ones you think are 'G'. The options at the bottom include 'journal default' or not.

I will add your new one. I hope you won't delete your lj because mine is friends only (this is why filtering doesn't really bother me as I don't want anyone under 14 reading mine anyway or actually anyone I haven't approved who is on my friends list). All of my posts are either friends locked or even more filtered than that. It still sucks though.
