In response to "Another view: Arguments against impeachment don't stand up"

Why impeach? Five excellent reasons as follows. 1) Violation of the Constitutional rights of citizens, conspiring to break wiretap laws passed by Congress to regulate the NSA and other agencies. 2) Violation of the Constitutional separation of powers in starting and continuing the illegal "war" in Iraq. Justifying the war with false and misleading statements to lie to and deceive the American people and Congress. 3) Violating the rights of citizens and non-citizens by arbitrarily detaining them indefinitely inside and outside of the United States, without due process, without charges, and with limited or no access to counsel or courts; failing to faithfully execute the laws of the United States by condoning torture and failing to investigate and prosecute high-level officials responsible for torture, and officially refusing to accept the binding nature of international treaty, Constitutional and statutory bans on cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment. 4) The unconstitutional and in violation of oath of office, arrogation of excessive power to the executive branch in violation of basic constitutional principles of the separation of powers; specifically the violation of law by conducting surveillance of U.S. citizens on U.S. soil without a judicial warrant (defying FISA, a law passed to check executive power); mass detentions both in and outside of the United States without permitting any judicial review of such detentions; declared intent to violate the laws enacted by Congress by appending a "signing statement" to legislation that asserts his right to carve out exceptions to legislation as he sees fit, thereby arrogating to the executive those legislative powers reserved solely to Congress. 5) The commutation of Libby's sentence for lying under oath to a Federal investigation. Ordering a member of your administration to commit a crime, and then pardoning them after conviction, is the rankest contempt for the rule of law and was identified by the Founding Fathers as clear grounds for impeachment. (End summary.)

You can call me a kook if you like, but millions of Americans agree. Bush and Cheney are common criminals and should be charged, impeached and punished for their crimes against the Constitution of the United States. I have asked my legislators the same questions as in this article, and am equally (if for different reasons) dissatisfied with their answers.
