SNARK: set to "ON" captain!

drewkittyI posted the following in response to some immigrant bashing and stupid PCisms in the Murky.
I can feel the hate from here, creeping over the valley floor and up the mountainside. Some of you blame the illegals for every problem under the sun; others want to apologize for the plight of desperate lawbreakers who viciously clean our toilets and ruthlessly pick our crops to feed their families. Because I actually read history books as opposed to California-censored textbooks, I seem to remember that in 1848 we kind of, ahem, invaded and took California from Mexico. We are the migrants. Get over it. The hate serves no one. Instead of "sweeps," let's have some guts and target the employers who hire illegals. Let's see Hilton and Marriott and other hotel chain executives perp-walked into Federal court for knowingly hiring contractors that hire illegals. Let's raid the growers at the height of season. Better yet, let's deport the violent felons to Iraq and see how they fare there; let immigrants have access to preventative care so they don't clog up our emergency rooms; and last but not least, stop shoveling human capital into the blast furnace that is the California economy. Pay foreign workers a living wage and legalize their status, or pick our own damn strawberries! You'd almost forget that we have a War on Terrorism going on, and people who cross borders are dangerous people.

Let's see: Texans win battle against ruler of Mexico, who agrees to give up any and all claims. (Treaties of Velasco) Texas establishes diplomatic ties with Great Britain, France, and the USA. A decade later, Texas admitted to the Union. Mexico invades. War breaks out, naturally. Two years later, Mexico loses, and cedes claim to nearly the rest of their territories (California amongst them). (Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo) They also get $15M in payment – half of what they were offered three years prior.

A small observation: These folks are coming up here & getting a whole, whopping *nickle* per basket of strawberries... the other areas are paying at approximately there equivalent rates, no matter the industry. The very last thing that any industry using these people wants is to have true reform.
