I take personal offense at your remark and if the laws permitted it, would meet you on the field of honor with sword in hand.
As they do not, allow me to briefly discuss morals and ethics for the benefit of the members of the Right present who lack either.
Morals are the guiding values which are used to make ethical decisions.
Ethics are a system of beliefs based on moral values.
This Leftist liberal author I know says that virtues are taught by three methods: by habit (indoctrination at an early age), by precepts and rules (lists of rights and wrongs), but most important by example (through the public conduct of our nation and its leaders.)
He further quotes the Roman historian Tacitus when he wrote, “The task of history is to hold out for reprobation every evil word and deed, and to hold out for praise every great and noble word and deed.”
The Leftist author says further, "It’s an old notion and an old responsibility, the teaching of virtues. Virtues don’t come in our genes, so it is the duty of every generation to pass them on. It is a duty we are not allowed to surrender."
In another work, he identifies the following core values: "Courage, friendship, loyalty, honesty, self-discipline, compassion, responsibility, work, and faith"
In what way is abusing prisoners courageous?
In what way is ignoring our friends around the world, who tell us that what we are doing in Iraq and at Gitmo is wrong, an act of friendship?
In what way is sending soldiers to fight and die with no clear notion of what victory would look like, an act of loyalty?
In what way is lying to the American people provably about weapons of mass destruction and about the behavior of our government, an act of honesty?
In what way is declaring war without an Act of Congress, and violating the law and the Constitution on a number of occasions because compliance was "inconvenient", an act of self-discipline?
In what way does running a network of secret prisons and keeping people in them for years without hope of release show compassion?
In what way does not having a plan for the future of Iraq, or for the future of America as shown in the federal budget, show responsibility?
In what ways does the continued subsidy of corporate and agribusiness interests and the increase of the Federal bureaucracy strangling small business show a belief in hard work?
Last but not least, in what way does torturing people demonstrate that we have faith in a just God who rewards good and punishes sin? "Judge not lest thou be judged!"
The name of this Leftist author, I leave it for you to discover.

I'm winning, but outnumbered.

Date: 2007-06-26 03:17 am (UTC)Beyond that, Jordan and co whine when they're insulted, but seem to have no qualms whatsoever about insulting others from the safety of internet anonymity. They speak of courage, and have none; speak of ethics, and obviously don't understand anything about it; speak of morality, while proving their amorality... need I continue here?
As I said earlier, the whole lot of chickenhawks over there are utterly and completely beneath contempt. Fortunately for them, the law as it presently exists protects oxygen thieves from extermination and allows them to consume resources that they are clearly putting to no good purpose whatsoever.
