Globall War of Terror - Force Majeure

Under pretext of again checking on our protectees, I briefly pulled aside our medics and one firefighter.
Their uniforms were a little different. They wore the same uniform shirts and pants as the rest of us, but each also wore a brassard - an armband - on both arms.
The base symbol on the armband was a red diamond. <> Within the diamond was a green cross for the medics and the letters "FF" for the firefighter.
Not a Red Cross. We are not part of the American Red Cross nor are we personnel accompanying combatants.
Their helmets were also marked the same way; the medics wore hard hats and the firefighter a distinctive fire helmet, all colored white, with the red diamond visible both front and rear.
Each also carried an identity card, issued by the Company, stating their identity information and that they were permanently assigned to medical and civil defense duties respectively, and therefore were protected by the Geneva Conventions.
"I am changing your terms and conditions of employment. I need you to leave your helmets and armbands here at the site and I need to collect your Geneva cards in order to immediately destroy them in front of you."
Each promptly took out and handed me their card, which I took EMS scissors to and collected the fragments for burning.
"You are now guard personnel with ancillary duties as applicable. As unit commander I have determined that protective symbols expose you to more danger, not less, and that any adversary will not honor them.
"Do any of you have a moral objection to carrying and using firearms in self defense or the defense of others?"
They shook their heads.
"You will be issued firearms at first opportunity. Dismissed."
