I don't have flares (yet) but I do have high-intensity glow sticks for other emergencies.

I remember a situation on 880 North just past Whipple, I saw a pair of headlights in *my* lane facing me, luckily the car was stopped, I managed to block enough to allow him to move to the shoulder, CHP was already on their way and relieved me pretty quickly.
