BART PD: Should They Be Armed? Should They Be Cops?

>> we will remind you of what we want in order to stop our protest:
>> 1. Fire Linton Johnson and BART Chief Kenton Rainey.
>> 3. Publicly apologize to the people for shutting down cell service.
>> 5. Reopen the investigation to the killing of Charles Hill.
Pass. My opinion on #3 is well known. Another investigation never hurt anyone, as long as it was a genuine search for truth. BART's had enough turnover in police chiefs and Linton Johnson is just a naked tool.
>> 2. Mandate new training for all BART officers.
>> 4. Take the guns away from the BART police.
Now here's an interesting discussion. I first posted about this on LJ a while back in a locked post. More soon.
I'd add in place of #4:
>> Strip BART of the authority to run a law enforcement agency. It's not as far-fetched as you might think.

Where should the rights of these protesters end, and the rights of ordinary people trying to access public transportation *without* interference, begin?
Also, I don't think anonymous is going to help its cause much *if* they manage to alienate most of the ordinary people in the San Francisco region with their antics, even if their issue is a good one.
