winter solstice

drewkittyI am celebrating winter solstice, the longest night of the year. I have taken this time tonight to look at what was, appreciate what is, and look forward to what will be.
Blessed be all those who read these words.
In the cycle of the seasons, this night is the nadir, the depth of winter. As we enjoy a moderate climate here in California, we need not slaughter the cattle nor huddle up with each other for warmth.
Nonetheless it is a good night for sharing with friends, for parties, for introspection and for extroversion.
It is also a good time to check one's compass, to get one's bearings, and decide to press on or to alter course.
I think both, actually. No growth is without pain, and every birth brings another death into the world.
Thank you to all those who are a positive and/or healthy influence in my life.
