Special Note: to date, thirty-one (31) affiliates at this campus have lost their lives in IED type incidents. Two of these incidents were mass casualty events involving VBIEDS, Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Devices, also known as car or truck bombs.

The improvised explosive device, also called a 'booby trap,' is a serious threat to human life as well as to property and to business operations generally. The effect of an IED is not only to cause casualties and damage property, but to slow down and disrupt ordinary business operations as well as emergency response.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES IS ANY EMPLOYEE OR AFFILIATE PERMITTED TO ATTEMPT TO ACCESS, DISARM, OR DEFUSE AN IED. Exception 1: authorized _contract_ Security and/or specialist demining personnel as designated by contract security management. Exception 2: as authorized by Corporate Security when no alternatives are available and inaction would certainly result in greater loss of life, only by properly trained and authorized personnel.

The following types of traps and IEDs are discussed in this program:

- command detonated IEDs
- victim activated IEDs
- timed IEDs
- network aware IEDs
- self propelled or SPIEDs ("drone bombs")
- vehicle borne or VBIEDs ("car bombs" or "truck bombs")
